Being a Digital Entrepreneur Today
Starting a digital company is like pushing a car until it's run by itself, if you dedicate energy to it, the car starts, but after it has started you must be able to maintain it or be ready to start again.
E-commerce is easily accessible and so is as fast as it is unstable, it is easy to get caught up in fashions which, however, cannot guarantee a long-term result.
Starting a business in the world of the web has low costs for tools but very high hours of work and advertising costs.
What does it mean to be a digital entrepreneur in a constantly changing world?
Let’s start by saying that you always remain a student.
Whatever knowledge you have, you need to update it every year.
Anyone who wants to move forward in their career dedicates a substantial part of their day to learning, in the digital world it becomes a must in order not to be left behind.
But at the same time, you cannot learn every technological tool and every new tactic, you must develop long-term strategies in which the tactics and technologies involved only influence the expected time of realization.
In my experience I have used a variety of CMS platforms (content management systems) to develop websites, from Wix, Joomla, WordPress, Shopify, each project had different needs and I was forced to switch platforms or combine different platforms to get results.
For particularly cutting-edge projects, where performance had to be at the highest levels, such as the Sokhrates Social Network, it was necessary to divide the process into the design, programming, the architecture of the Amazon servers and assign the job to a professional for each sector.
All projects start from small steps and slowly evolve and each project has different challenges.
Today there is a lot of talk about “grow-hacking” as if it were a new discipline for growing companies. It is simply a new word for marketing strategies, only in today’s world we are cognitively inclined to divide the definition of the product from the sales strategy as if we could truly separate this process.
To be a digital entrepreneur, you must first be an entrepreneur, in intentions and in spirit, study how a business is born and evolve, then, even during the process of business creation, you can acquire digital technical skills, appropriate from time to time to overcome certain steps.
Web presence depends on several factors and none of it is essential.
The website, the Google page, Facebook, Twitter, etc … are not essential.
It is essential to have a view from above that clearly sees its audience and knows how to move the pieces in this digital network, to offer the best service/product at a reasonable cost.
If I had to talk to those who are starting to learn how to develop websites now I would say:
It is an infinite path where you never stop and everyone must find their own way based on their talents, those who love graphics, rather than programming, rather than copyright, will follow different paths.
We must seek a “Vision” that inspires, rather than creating strategies on technologies that will soon be outdated.
When you have a good idea, any technology on the web, even the simplest and most free, works, if the idea is not so strong you can use AI and Virtual Reality, but it doesn’t necessarily work.
If I had to talk to those looking for a digital collaborator I would say:
Evaluate the people first rather than the technologies they offer you, their way of working and their ethic.
Look for those who accept bets rather than those who propose predetermined routes.
